Living Legend & Old Fart
I have had my Edge 705 since 31 August this year. The unit came supplied with two bike mounts. Within three months both mounts broke - they were the two part mounts and it was the lower part which broke. I have bought two more mounts from the UK and these are a more substantial one piece mount.
I contacted Garmin Support in the US and they passed on my query to the Singapore unit (I am living in Thailand). Basically, I was told that my 3 month old Edge was out of warranty and to wait until the unit broke and then I could send it and the broken mounts to them for repair!
On the Garmin site, I can send an e-mail to Support in the US and the only action is that it will be forwarded to Singapore, does anyone have a contact e-mail in the US?

That's frickin' pants innit. I've heard many a complaint about those 705 style mounts, not that that's any consolation. But Garmin are usually (touch wood) pretty good support wise so I can only imagine your message is getting nowhere, falling into a trans Pacific void.

You could try having a moan on the Garmin Connect Forum, that's monitored by Garmin US staff and I know from personal experience that they will contact you and put you into contact with the Garmin support people there.

I've already broke three of these mounts, it seems to be a common problem. These days I just use my broken mounts and remove my edge by just using a small pointed object like a screw or screwdriver on my multitool to press the remains of the lever down.

I've just "won" a Garmin 605 on ebay. Apart from this breaking of mounts, should I expect to have to use rubber bands etc to secure the unit or is the standard mount strong enough to hold onto the unit?

The mounts hold the "Edge" securely, even if it is broke, providing that it is only the lever to remove it that is broke and the remaining stump still has the little wedge to lock into the back off the "Edge" then it will still hold it securely, but you then need a pointy object just to prise the stump down slightly to remove the "Edge".

I have heard of people having there "Edge" fall off the mounting, but I have a feeling it was probably not locked on to start with. As a rule though, after I have fitted mine, I always try to push it out of the mounting just to be safe, and if I do not feel it click into place, I'll remove it and refit it till I feel or hear the click.
