Garmin picks up cadence but doesnt record it

Hi I need help please resolving this issue.
I turn my Garmin 810 on and mount it on the bike, I get the screen to alert that it picked up my cadence showing the icons of the pedal and cogwheel , I also get a bleep. (The cadence sensor came inbuilt on my Giant Bike)
Go for a bike ride, upload on Garmin connect and there is no data on cadence whatsoever.

What have I missed?

Thanks

The crank magnet?

I'm good, thank you!

I gotcha.

No idea, but probably the crank magnet is too far away or not in the right position for the sensor to pick it up?

The Garmin will automatically detect your Cadence device fitted to your bike when you are close to it and you will get that display and beep on the Garmin straight away before you even move or touch your bike, that ensures your cadence sensor is working and paired to the Garmin. Presuming you do have a magnet fitted to the pedal, ensure you have a data display on the Garmin to show cadence, if not create one by either going into the setting or the quick method of just pressing a finger on an existing data field you do not want till it goes blue, when you release your finger, the Garmin will show all the data field options and just select "Cadence". Once you have that data field set up, turn your pedals or move another magnet about close to the sensor rapidly which is the easiest and see if anything shows up in the data field. (I suspect it will remain blank). If it does show blank, then it is a case of ensuring you do have a magnet fitted on the crank and if their is, then it needs repositioning slightly by sliding it up or down the crank or moving the sensor on the chain stay closer to the pedal.. If their is no magnet present then fit one.

Yes this is exactly what is happening

Brilliant will do - seems stupid but only ridden the new bike a few times and had not bothered amending the data field :okay:

If their is no magnet present then fit one. I do have both parts on wheel and on the crank (inbuilt Giant one)

Thanks a lot Zack I will try as advised and let you know

I would sack the garmin cadence sensor and replace it with a magnet that attaches to the end of the pedal thread on the inside of the crank. Much more reliable.
