Evening all,
I've used a Garmin Forerunner 305 for several year to record my runs. When I start commuting I'd like to use my Garmin to keep track of my mileage etc I've seen on Amazon that you can buy an add on for the Forerunner that connects to the bike and keeps track of your cadence etc.

Does anyone one use one of these? And if so is it worth buying the add-on or would i be better off either buying a bike computer or just strapping my Garmin to the handlebar and not bother with the cadence?

Sorry, think I posted this in the wrong section

I use my Edge 305 on a couple of bikes but only have one cadence sensor and tbh, on the bike without I don't miss it; unless you are particularly wanting to know your cadence I would save your money

Thanks, think I might just buy a some foam so I can fit the gps to the handlebar then.

I've found that my forerunner comes hin handy when I upload the routes to google earth, helps to show me where I'm being weak when out for a run. I wouldn't trust it for navigation though

I use my iPhone more these days as I'm carrying it anyway but I have the 305 from my running days and it works fine with the bike mount. I'd get a small strip of rubber for your bars though as the cable ties can slip when you go over a bump.

Why? I've used it loads of times with no issues.

I've tried it while running and looking for one of those geocache jobbies and I just couldn't get on with it, I found the screen too small and a black line on a green background wasn't very helpful.

Thanks, I might look at using my iPhone aswell. I

Here for rides.
I've got a Forerunner 305 and the cadence unit add-on, and a foot pod but that isn't relevant here. If you like gathering data it is another layer to analyse. I don't bother fitting the Forerunner to the bike, I just use the velcro QR watch strap.

I use a Garmin Forerunner 305 as my only cycle computer. I don't have the cadence thingy. It works great, although it can be a PITA waiting for it to find satellites.

I did get the bikemount for it - basically something that pops over the handle bars and gives you something more substantial to tie the strap round. It was only a tenner or so and was money well spent.

I have read here Garmin 305 Review that 305 can provide you with tracking data when gps signal is lost by us using data from footpad or cadence sensor. Any expiriance with that? Thanks

With the edge anyway, its not really detailed tracking data, it just uses data (like any other computer) gained from the sensor to fill in the gap, ie during the time the gps was off you went x.xx miles in x:xx time based on the circumference of the wheel, it doesn't know if you went left, right or zigzagged. With the forerunner I would have thought it'd be even more of a guess as your stride may not always be exactly the same, it could only base the distance on what you had covered in x number of strides before.

I have the cadence sensor and bike mount, I also use a free program from the web called sporttracks which is better than the original garmin software. It does the business .
