Hi there,
Santa brought me the edge 500 ^_^ Much happiness .. I have a heart rate monitor which connected to a watch. I have tried to connect it to the garmin but when I press search for the monitor on the settings, it automatically clicks off  .. The heart symbol is there but it is not noted on the screens where the heart rate is displayed. The booklet states that you get a message that it's connected but I have never had this. Anyone any advice please ....

Only that within a few seconds after switching on my 800 I get message saying 'HR Monitor Found' or something similar. I've never had to search for it TTBOMK

It should automatically connect, mine did this one time but it had a dodgy battery. My garmin was a 205 forerunner and had the original battery in it.it wasn't new at the time.

I've tried a new battery, maybe it's the wrong type of monitor

Is it the new monitor, I think the call it premium strap? My 810 connects to both my new and old HRM. I have read bad reviews about the premium straps and one of my club mates reverted to his old strap. Best of luck

It's an older model I think, I've had it for ages, maybe I will need to buy another

You could try to disconnect it from your older unit, mine will only connect to one device, maybe could be the same with the units, taking a wild guess but you never know

Unless your HRM is ANT+ compatible, it's not going to work.

Maybe tell us what HRM you have - or look it up. The 500 communicates with external devices via a protocol called ANT+ - unless your HRM supports that, it won't display HR numbers on the Garmin.
I have a crane one and a polar t31
