On a recently-purchased Edge 800, I added the odometer reading for my previous Garmin to that of the new unit, bringing it up to about 64,000km, because I wanted this continuity between the old and new units. However, when I exit all the setup menus and re-enter the bicycle details page, the odometer value has changed to about 43,000km.

I then upgraded the firmware from 2.40 to 2.60, but I get exactly the same behaviour (and the approx. 43,000km value is exactly the same each time). When I gave up on this, and changed the odometer reading back to a few 100km (the rides I've done so far on this new Garmin), it doesn't randomly change, and increases properly with each ride.

I tried searching the Garmin forums, but its search function is pretty bad. A manual search through the 160+ pages of Edge 800 forum posts (makes me wonder how many problems this unit has) found no mention of odometer. A general web search did find one Garmin forum thread about the odometer increasing for multiple bicycle profiles when it should only increase for the profile used on a given trip, but no mention of my problem.

Have any of you had my problem, and if so did you manage to resolve it?

Before I updated my 800, it only supported three bikes and once the unit switched off they'd reset to the default name (Bike1,Bike2 and Bike3) but the Odo stayed  FWIW I deal in mile but I doubt that make a difference.

Someone on an Australian cycling forum just gave me the answer: the .FIT SDK defines the odometer reading in a format which has a maximum value of just under 43,000km, so it "wraps around" at that value and goes back to 0. So I guess the 705 unit has one advantage over the 800, because the former's XML text .FIT file format allows for much larger odometer values.

More odometer problems - the bloody Edge 800's odometer doesn't get updated with every trip! I just checked it after 2.5 months, and found that instead of the usual 3000+ km added to the odometer, it had only added about half that. I'm getting a bit fed up with the Edge 800's bugs. I think my next cycle computer may be a Bryton.
