I have been generally happy with my 705, it has given me wild data at times - 948 kms in less than 3 hours! Two days ago, it started to go into auto pause and auto mode by itself and no amount of coaxing would get it out of this cycle and then the low battery indicator came on; the unit was fully charged when I turned it on less than one hour previous and indicated a top speed of 108 kph.
I fully charged it and it behaved perfectly yesterday so I put the experience down to atmospheric conditions. Today - same problems but my speed increased to 148 kph!
I have been doing a lot of internet searching and e-mailing the Thai distributor (without success!)
Do you think I need a new battery? Unit is in almost daily use and is about 2 years old.
Should I try fully discharging the battery and recharging it?
Some forums have suggested a hard reset (Power+mode), would this help and would I have to reload the map?
I misplaced the charger when I moved from Bangkok, dificult to find one here so could I use a generic charger providing it had the same mini USB and same charge rating? I have been charging via the PC and the unit shows a computer icon and a smaller battery icon.

Worth a hard reset (download data first). Could be battery.

What firmware is on it. If its the current one 3.3 (current since December 10) you should be OK but if it's 3.2 get it updated as this was faulty !

I decided to change the battery. I phoned the distributor In Bangkok. They have no service department and would have to send it to the factory in Taiwan! I was quite pleased that I was sitting down when the told me the cost; about £160!
I did find a few places on the internet that sold Garmin Edge batteries and one was in Bangkok; cost, including registered shipping, about £11. I also found a 'How to' video on youtube.
Seems to be worling OK now
