Garmin Edge 1000 question

Hi Guys .... just a quick question:

I have had my Edge 1000 for a few days now and am still learning how to use it.

If I select a course and do 3/4 of it, then decide to abort the course and navigate back home, how do I continue recording the ride back home without having to end and save the 1st ride on the course? (so that the Garmin records the whole day's ride as 1 ride instead of 2)?

probably a dumb question, but I have not figured this out yet

so, just to clarify, I can press the red X, then select the 'navigate to home' feature, and it will continue recording the ride and add it to the 1st ride?
