Morning all,

I own a Forerunner 305, which has very limited navigation on it. Basically I can create routes and input coursepoints on bikehike.co.uk and it will upload directly to my Garmin Forerunner, this has come in handy for audaxes as then I can do away with the route sheet and so far has worked perfectly on all the 100km audaxes that I have done. However I was just plotting my route for the 200km audax I have got a week on Sunday and was just plotting the coursepoints for the turns etc when I got about 3/4 of the way round the route when a dialog box popped up and said "the garmin edge 305/405/605 are limited to 100 coursepoints max". Bugger, I thought, especially as it is an area of the country I have never even cycled before!

I was just wondering is it possible that I could create 4 routes, 1 for each stage of the audax and upload all 4 to the garmin device which would then obviously have about 150 coursepoints plotted across 4 completely different routes? I could then load each route when I get to the next control point. Or is the 100 coursepoint limit a memory limitation for the whole device?

I hope this makes sense!

Thanks,

Jon.

Its not a crisis, the 305 will easily hold a 200k course. As it says only 100 course points are allowed, but the number of track points are greater.

If you use Bikeroute toaster as your mapping programme, just use Track Points and you will not have a problem. Course points can be inserted if you want at the crucial bits etc

The only problem I found with an Edge 305 was its processing power and on routes of over 80+ miles, it would struggle and update the course very slow so it was easy to go pass your turning. So it may be advisable to split your route into two. But I am only presuming the forerunner 305 is similar

I've been working all night, so sorry if this is a bit sketchy as my brains shutting down in need of some sleep.

Thanks zack, all these years I've been tending to sync my edge 305 with memory map which makes course points which I have to be strategic with in order to get a decent length of route, I'll have to investigate these track points; I had thought they were the same thing
You are definitely accurate wrt the refresh rate of the 305 it can be very slow, which isn't too bad when way points are spaced apart but when they are close!

Here for rides.
mind we ain't getting confused here between a forerunner 305 (wrist watch GPS aimed at runners who may do a bit of cycling) and an Edge 305 which is a cycling specific GPS
