Hi

Used my garmin edge 800 today to do some geocaching, the coordinates were about 1/3 of a mile out at least. It drove me mad, had to use my car sat nav in the end and that worked fine.

Anyone know why the coordinates take me to different locations? When i look at the map on edge it shows me in the correct position but coordinates do not match???

errrrr, what does that mean?
you may need this converter
http://www.vonglahn.com/latlongvert/index.htm

Coordinates can be in many different ways

as in hddd mm.mmm format

hddd.ddddd

hddd mm' ss.s

you have to find out what the “geocaching coordinates” were written in it will be in one of the above, you can use the converter to change them.

On my garmin I use hddd mm.mmm set your garmin to the same and then change the coordinates to that using the converter

The standard for geocaching is WGS84.

I suspect that your GPS is set to a different format (datum) which will throw the coordinates out.

Unfortunately I am only used to the eTrex GPS, but have found almost 500 caches.

Awesome!

Now, have you entered your home coordinates on the geocaching website?

If so, step outside with the edge and compare the two sets of coords. Should be within a few feet of each other.
