Ok then - I now have this spangly new-fangled Edge 200 thing and it looks like a handy little thingy too.

I am using the Garmin Connect dashboard to record my data on and it looks pretty intuitive (updated tile version) and I am able to find my way around and do stuff etc etc.

For those of you who use this do you have any tips re setting up the various screens and the way you record/display data?

The reason I ask is that invariably with me and things like this I go and bash a whole raft of data in and then realise I could've done things better/differently if you get my drift.

Any ideas/advice/tips/big holes in the ground to watch out for would be most welcome.

Ta.

Use another website instead of/as well as.
I use RideWithGPS, much better than Garmin Connect.

Use the Strava website with the VeloViewer plugin.
The Garmin site is in my experience a muddled, bug ridden mess, only redeemed by the fact its too slow to actually use

Your experience may vary.

I use Garmin Connect which is fine and presents all the data on each ride (activity) on a page with the map and some graphs and stuff, or a list (spreadsheet like) of the last 20 rides which is also useful. So I like Garmin Connect.
I also use Strava as it does segments so much better than Garmin Connect and feeds Veloviewer which I like for the heat map thingy (easier to understand than Strava's own one). Also good for sharing rides with others on CycleChat etc. So I like Strava.
Because I am an ex-engineer and thus a data nerd I also extract the data from Garmin Connect and enter it in to my own spreadsheet to get weekly/monthly totals of milage/elevation, calculation of progress to monthly/annual goal, calculation of my current Eddington Number. So I like my own spreadsheet.
For route planning I use RideWithGPS using the OSM maps which line up the th OSM maps on my Garmin 800. So I like RideWithGPS.
But each to their own

That one sent me away for a merry few minutes googling!

I still use the older Garmin version, upload manually as sometimes the elevation dosn't set right (i.e. home elevation at 172ft) the 705 and others if set up will set the elevation if its within range of a predetermined point.
Sites I use, strava well its why we buy a gps unit, rwgps better info and more correct elevation than strava, mapping is the best unless you want the virtual partner ( I use TCX converter to correct the speed) other sites does this better, you can add and remove course points and waypoints edit them to contain info i.e. a peak might contain the elevation, or a cake stop half way point ect...., but you get in to a routine which works for you. Veloviewer as it displays strava data better, and like @morrisman I am a bit of a stats freak, I did use excel but the data got to large so I use Acces now and have various tables like rolling 7, 30, 90, 365 days, this weekk last week ect, same for month and quarter and year also Eddington No. which is currently 48 but if I do the ride I have planned for tomorrow this will then be 49. It also includes a bike expense sheet which whilst it shows the mileage an item has done, its a little clunky also weather, I can do a quick query for any challenge over a given time, you get the picture.
This is the main menu screen a bit ad-hoc I am afraid, but as I am the only one to use it, it doesn't really matter,
The data in each table, basic's sp/time/hr/cad/elevation from these elevation ft/mile (or using the climbbybike formula a difficult score), avg gear inch, ect.......
