Having a few issues with the reliability of said candence sensor. It keeps failing durring rides and then records a constant candence of where ever it left off. I'm guessing this is because the sensor bracket and ties are inadequet! or are they suseciptable to rain and such like? Whats the best way to attach the sensor?

Try realigning the magnets and pedal sensor
Then reset it by pressing the button on the sensor itself

Maybe the cable tie around pedal isn't tight enough or the. Sensor itself is slipping therefore not catching the pedal sensor

Mine seems to have given up the ghost, cadence works fine but the speed sensor screws up my ride data. I have changed batteries and tweaked position but for the sake of an easy life tried the unit after a reset on its own and can live without cadence for a while.

This is still a problem

I've tightened all the cable ties, if I tighten them any more I fear they will snap! reset the sensor, realigned the magnet and senosor.

I lost my sensor magnet on my crank arm and replaced it with a powerful magnet from ebay. These things are tiny and no chance they'll fall off. Cadence records fine.
I suspect some of the trouble I have had was down to the crank arm magnet moving (problem seems worse when wearing shoe covers.) so I got a magnet (great idea) that simply sits on the pedal axle (as long as it's steel!)

Itried all this and it worked, for 2.5 miles of smooth road then packed in again
How old is it? Might be worth replacing the battery anyway to rule that out.

It was brand new, bought at the begining of November, since which I've traveled around 900 miles. Perphaps I have over estimated it's weather ressistance, as I ride all weathers. However I suspect that it's just the cheap way the unit attaches to the frame that makes it unreliable. Is there an alternative sensor I could use that would pair with my Garmin 800?

Which magnets did you get? I got a pack of 10 of the tiny wee one but are very strong.

Failing that contact Garmin. I phoned them and they when mine stopped working and after trying out everything they asked, which is also on their website, they sent me out a brand new cadence unit FOC.

Replace the magnet as suggested.

If you are like me, a real obsessive ; worry about imbalance of the crank arms and consider placing a second magnet on the other crank arm for balance. I only considered it for 5 secs while waiting for a pint to be Pulled, and even then only semi-seriously. The barman thought I was being nasty when I said "You Muppet" just as he placed the pint down.
