Any ideas?

I bought a Garmin for the other half (I have the same) which just came with the Garmin basemap which is rubbish.

I tried following the instructions for free mapping from the DC rainmaker site here and stuck it on a micro sd card. The map shows up fine but if I try and load up a GPX route or TCX file then the route doesn't show (purple line with turn by turn directions). If I take out the micro sd card (i.e. using the Garmin base map) the route works fine.

I also tried using talkitoaster and downloaded the ROUTABLE map from here (British Isles + countours routable) and get the same issue.

Anyone able to help?

Can't you copy the maps of your existing SD card on your 705 onto your PC and then transfer to swmbos SD card, or is it copyright protected?

Copyright protected (in a way-something to do with the file having a unique i-d).

Garmin itself.

I've tried several routes.

I've tried the same routes on my Garmin-all working fine.

Remove the micro sd card and the route uploads.

Well, I spent a couple of hours round the net looking for a solution. Nothing.

Hmmmm, might have to resort to an original Garmin map....

Is there a setting where you set the default map? Did the 705 have folder "new files" where you put the route file first or is that from the 800 onwards?

Go to the configuration menu, then Settings->Map, and select the map type.

There's no setting for default map. You simply tick or untick the map in the menu.

Second, your map has no routing. It's possible that your map is a version without routing built into it, you'll have to download a version that has the routing in. I can't remember where I got it from but I have an OSM with the routing and it works OK (not as well as the Garmin map tho)

Nope-see my upper case text above:smile:.

Now, the plot thickens. The software was out of date on my wife's Garmin, so I updated it. So now both Garmins are identical.

I swapped the maps around (wife's in mine) and the bugger works:wacko: So, now my wife has the official Garmin map and I have the OSM:wacko:

Now you just need to swap the Garmin with your wife and your where you wanted to be in the first place!
