Recently read how you can use the 200 as a wrist GPS and decided that I would get one then I looked at the battery life and found it is a rechargable that only lasts for 14 hours. Normaly when I am riding this would be the break point for my day. Can any one tell me how I can extend the battery life or get extra batterys for the 200.

Assuming it charges off mini/micro usb most external batteries would allow you to recharge it during your break. Things like the veho pebble/power monkey id presume, though ive not actually tried to charge a garmin with one :P

Do you mean that you typically ride more than 14 hours in a day btw?

The reviews recon the charge can last longer than 14 hours, that's assuming you didn't get one that went faulty like mine, although got that exchanged.

I have a 200 and confirm it will last about 12 hours. But will depend on whether you use the backlight. It will charge with an external battery, whilst still recording. Unfortunately it won't show the time when recording, which is bizarre and a bit annoying.

Normaly when I am out touring I will be useing the GPS for up 14 hours at a time and will use up a pair of batteries in the Etrex.
Though I will not be on the bike all that time I tend to leave the GPS switched on.

Just tried with my 500, and if you plug it in to charge then it will go into "connected to a computer" mode and doesn't let you do anything (i.e. buttons don't work, and I can't get back to the information screens). When you unplug it, it turns off.

From your usage it sounds like you'd need to charge it while not riding, or look for a different model.

Why do you want an Edge 200 for touring? If you have an Etrex then that's a much better option. My Etrex Legend HCx would last about 20 hours with a good set of rechargeables.

Of course you could switch it off when you're sightseeing or whatever - it'll get a satellite lock again pretty quickly if you don't move much from where you switched it off.
