Yay, raspberry season has arrived! Had our first decent picking in time for a family BBQ last weekend.
But this is the last year we'll bother growing strawberries (unless we want to continue feeding the local mouse population).

The greenhouse has been producing fantastic cucumbers for weeks, and starting any day now is a good 3 months of toms.

The new Drago Towers has a mid sized garden, all laid to brand new turf so I'm having to start again. Other than a few square metres behind the garage that I'm leaving to grow wild for the insects is a blank green slate.

That'll change. It'll be a bit late to get any crops going this year, but the plan is to get the prep done over the summer holidays with the installation of raised beds and a greenhouse. Watch this space.

My strawberries are disappointing again. I bought hanging basket varieties a few years ago and they performed well. I replaced them with new plants last year but couldn't get the same varieties. The ones I got claimed to be ideal for baskets but they were poor last summer. I took them out of the baskets to overwinter and thought they might do better this time but no such luck. Some of the plants aren't even showing signs of flowering.

However the raspberries look much more prolific so as long as the birds don't get too many I'll be happy.

Yesterday I picked three long and thin stalks, put it into a pan with some water and put it on the ring. Then promptly forgot about it. Cue a strong smell of burning and a blackened pan containing burnt rhubarb. Not sure there are enough stalks to pick more just yet. I love rhubarb too. One of the few fruits I actually like to eat!!

Strawberries aren’t great either here however I out it down to repotting a lot late on and they suffering a little, the raspberries however are feeding the spaniels very well the little buggers!
It’s almost a race to get out for them in the morning!😲
The roses and cornflowers are having a prolific season which is keeping Ms H happy.

Hicky, ms Hicky and little cherub have just returned from the David Austin gardens in Albrighton….a lovely few hours. However it is very overpriced.
Notes taken on which varieties we’d like and ones to buy soon…..a quick visit to the local garden centre and 1/3 off the price than in DA.
In the age on the t’interweb what makes companies think people are foolish to pay inflated prices?
