It's not ideal, certainly. The problem is that jet washes are able to wash all the grease out from bearings, and will also take paint off given half a chance. As my Ribble will bear witness...

Depends how close you keep the nozle from the bike. The further you get back, the lower the pressure and the risk of all the above. I think at about 1/2 meter away, the pressure is not bigger than a soft brush and quite safe to use, but I would still keep the jet away from sensitive areas where grease can be easily stripped. Personally I wouldn't bother setting it up, a normal garden hose with a shower / spray attachment does exactly the same job and it's much safer.

I think it's more about the cleaner/degreaser you use to lift the dirt and grease off to enable you to rinse it down without the need for high pressure.

I too live in a flat and I use the Muck-off stuff and then a big sponge and a bucket of water, that I carry carefully down the stairs and out to the shed where my sponges, cleaning stuff etc lives. I have cleaned my bike in the bath before now, with a shower attachment on the taps.

Having knocked filler out of an old car with one of those garage jetwash jobbies, I am loathe to let one near my bike.

There's nothing I like more than rusty bearings! I would wash the bike with some warm water, sponge and some bike friendly cleaning product. I sometimes use a hosepipe with low pressure to wash the mud off the frame, but avoid jet washing any moving parts.

In the bath... hmmm... Oh you shouldn't have said that.... My wife is gonna kill me
If you clean the bath out afterwards, I can't see where the problem is.
I never minded when my OH took his motorbike engine apart on my kitchen table - as long as he covered the table first. Then again, he didn't mind when I had my bike engine apart on the kitchen table either. I might just be a slightly odd woman though.
