Should this gap between the stopper plate and the crank be there if it's torqued up correctly? I haven't got a torque wrench to check. I haven't had it checked since new. Only noticed this after a crick/creak noise down below.
Mine have small gaps as there is a plastic shim that slots in there which means the two faces won't butt up to each anyway.
The first time I used a torque wrench really surprised me, I must have been overtightening things for ever! I'd guarentee that without a torque wrench you'll definately have tightened them suffciently.
No worries BB, just relaying my and various colleagues experiences. I do tend to be quite heavy handed which was why I was surprised when I got my torque wrench.Dont want to confuse matters but cant see how you can say that for all.
I keep saying I must get a torque wrench. (any recommendations?)

I use this one, not fancy but it does what it's meant to do, and it does it very well IMHO, it would be nice if it was marked in 1Nm increments instead of 2Nm, but that's just me being a finicky old git![]()
I was advised to always wind the handle back to zero after use to save stressing the mechanism - don't know if it helps or not, but it certainly can't do any harm.
I actually bought mine from an LBS, it wasn't my main LBS and I still got some discount, but I still paid a touch more than the one in the above link , but that said, it pays to keep in with all the LBS's in your little black book IMHO![]()
Thanks smokeysmoo, that's the exact one I ordered today!![]()
