gamin edge not recognized by pc

Bought an edge 200 for x mas and its been great untill today.
When connected to a pc it charges but the pc does not recognize it , downloaded latest connect plug in + usb drivers, tried different pc`s and different cables all to no avail.
Typically the garmin website is down

I had a 200 die on me in Autumn, but that was charging issues. You are connecting it to the PC with the unit switched off ?

I have this on occasion. When i changed the pc it worked fine, so maybe use a different usb port? Keep unplugging and retrying see if that helps.

My cables last a month before they start getting flaky. I always press them slightly and they seem to take or change the USB slot on the laptop.

Did you download the latest 'Garmin Communicator', if not maybe try that when the site is back up.
In the meantime, my old 305 is pernickey and usually I have to move it around usb ports until I get one to work

Cant remember what it was.

Something XP did automatic that 7 doesn't

Just noticed on start up there is now a blank box on screen in the centre of the screen that covers where the lines meet .

Nothing see it, the pcs are not registering the presence of the device at all although its drawing power to recharge.
