I am in the process of trying to decide on these versions of Morricone's beautiful track originally from "The Mission". I've taken the liberty of selecting the best versions in IMHO:

My favourite orchestral version played on the oboe. Yeon-Hee Kwak's breath control is unearthly

My favourite "Nella Fantasia" version. Sarah Brightman is not everyone's cup of tea, neither is she mine usually, but I cannot find a more perfect version than this

My favourite cello version played by the promising Yo Yo Ma

The wildcard - A version by Carlos Nunez played on the Galician Bagpipe

Definitely the first for me. Gave me goose bumps, but I also enjoyed the bagpipe version.

I'm really cross with Morricone at the moment, I booked tickets to see him conduct an orchestra playing his film music and he's gone and cancelled it due to ill health the selfish swine.

I was also going (to Birmingham) but was aware of his ill health so was not holding my breath (unlike Yeon-Hee Kwak who appears to be able to hold her breath at will).

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Yo-yo Ma - promising upcoming unknown? You what?

The first.
I used this version for my HND presentation as it was a great fit for the subject (the preisthood).
I sent it to the priest who had helped me, and he told me he cried....I like to think it was the photos but I'm pretty sure it was the music

Keep in mind I'm listening on headphones so hear everything - the orchestral oboe playing is as I would expect from a professional - I was wondering if she was doing that circular breathing thing, but I can hear her breathing.
I'd never heard the vocal version before - Sarah Brightman's voice is a bit light in it for my taste, I wonder what a more operatically trained voice would sound like (possibly over the top...)
I got bored with Yo Yo Ma - and I can hear him breathing too!
The bagpipes are nice, and different...

..

She? on the oboe...has a fine beard for a lady

I like the oboe, not keen on the twangy background music on the Sarah Brightman one!

I wasn't looking at the pictures - but the poll says "she"...?

And I agree about the thing that sounds like a harpsichord on the Sarah Brightman - it sounds like it has just been added to the original version - why?

Oh my bad, I seem to have been linked to a dude playing it called Henrik Chaim! Apologies

I like the woman more now I'm listening to the right one!
