theres no mounts for them on the drop outs. Can it be done? The fixed hasnt got them, wouldnt mind some on there.
I thought that maybe you could put something on the axle by the nut that you could attach them to maybe? Maybe not?;)

Is this the kind of thing you want?

I had an old bike some years ago with no mudguard mounts, I basically made my own mounts by using a couple of flat bits of ali one end with a hole drilled to fit the axle ends the other with a small hole to take a bolt to fit the stays to (hope that makes sense) They didn't look to pretty but did the job ! With a bit more effort they would have looked OK. I have included link to a diagram to explain a little better. http://www.flickr.com/photos/28690387@N04/2815126586/ The other way would be to go the mountain bike route and use a rear guard fitted to the seat post available in all cycle shops. these would work for front and back guards

If you get really desperate I could knock some up ,you would have to finish them yourself ie: file the corners off to suit

Done a winter on the Giant with them. They arent bad, but when its raining heavy, or your going through puddles or standing water they throw water down your leg.
Although the front race blade from the Giant goes on the back of the fixed. Not tried it out yet in the wet though, just put it on to see if it fitted.
In 2 minds whether to just use that race blade, or put full guards on it.
One will make it look good, the other maybe not so good.

P-clips are OK for mudguards.
If clearances are tight at the fork crown, you require least space if you remove the proper fittings from the mudguard, and use 2 cable ties over the shoulder of the fork, threaded through 2 pairs of holes drilled in the mudguard.

Raceblades aren't as good as full mudguards, but will mostly keep spray below top tube level apart from a bit of blow-back from the top of the front wheel.

[edit]
The axle plates will work OK on nutted axles apart from being a real nuisance every time you take the wheel out. On a QR axle, you would have to size the axle hole for the QR skewer if placed on the outside of the dropout, or use a pretty thin plate if placed on the inside of the dropout (to keep the droput resting on the axle and not the skewer).

regarding looking good with full mudguards.

when i bought my bike second hand it had full mudguards fitted both front and rear, and as winter closes in i am thinking of putting the back one back on. but because i thought the silver made the bike look too much like a tourer and i asked my dad if i could spray paint them black to make it look like the tyre, and for once he agreed as he said he needed some black aerosol for our classic car. so i will have a rear full mudguard but hopefully u wont be able to see it untill u get close

Well i've found out about Race blades from experience with them. But when its been heavy rain(like proper proper heavy rain) the back wheel spreys onto the seat tube, then it shoots it onto my leg and down my leg into my shoexx( Ahh the fun i've had on those rides:smile:
Clearence are pretty tight, especially on the back wheel but there is enough room. But where the brake bridge is on the back wheel i think the mudguards will be sitting close to the tyre. Same with the front(but oviously not the brake bridge:wacko:)
Would have to be silver though i think, to go with the look of the fixed:becool:

Never actually tried them myself, so didn't know that.
