My oldest bike is an old sun frame that I bought when I was 19, that's 22 yrs ago now!
The running gear was all very worn out so I let the old guy in my LBS have it to get it road worthy again, I've decided its going to be my commuter/tourer and have purchased some Marathon tyres for it, which brings me to my question, does anyone know of full mudgurds that I will be able to fit on this,(27x1 1/4) I have a feeling the gap under the brake blocks will be reduced due to the extra depth of the new tyres so am wondering if I should go the race blade route which have some adjustment in them or get MTB crud catchers, and just strap them to the frame with cable ties. I'm not really bothered about how it looks as I am going for character in this bike rather than a homoginised racer look.

Actualy reading this I have answered my own question, get some funky crud catchers and give it my own personal look.:smile:

You can use mudguards designed for 700c on 27 x 1 1/4. At least I did. I managed to make it work with minimal clearance as well. If clearance is a bit on the tight side, what I found works is to drill small holes through the mudguard either side of the fork crown close to the outside edges of the mudguard and use cable ties to hold it on rather than the proper bracket which goes on with the brake caliper. That way, you can pull the mudguard much closer to the frame. Maybe not an elegant solution but more elegant than getting covered in spray.

That sounds ok, i don't mind a bit of botching tbh, I think what I will do is take it to a well stocked bike shop and see what I can do, have a look at a few options and decide which looks best I like the idea of making it look unique to me but being practical at the sametime. I will have a look at the sks option as well, i have them on the other bike at the mo and am sure they could be made to fit.;)
