I'm looking for some full length mudguards for a rigid mountain bike. Any recommendations?

I picked up an early 1990s Peugeot Sandshark for nipping to the shops on as I'm always paranoid someone will steal my road bike.

One of the reasons I've not even using the pug as much as I should is my clothes get covered in road crap.

I'm looking at these Axiom Roadrunner mudguards;

Anyone used them? Any good?

Currently the pug has old versions of the CRUD Raceguard (rear)
http://m.evanscycles.com/products/crud/race-guard-ec017533
and CRUD Catcher (front) http://m.evanscycles.com/products/crud/catcher-ec017534

The CRUD guards are great for keeping the worst of the mud off on the trails but not for protecting clothes from road spray.

Is a MTB with guards not some kind of sacrilege?

I've had the Crud guards in the past without any issues on or off road. When the weather is grim you're always going to get a bit wet or muddy.

More tyre coverage is always better, so full mudguards are better than Crudguards or raceblade-alike, which in turn are better than Crudcatchers.

It will depend on what tyres you run, and where you ride that bike. To be removing and refitting mudguards would be a pain.

Those Axiom mudguards don't say how wide they are, so it could be that you would be limited in the widest tyre you could use.
These SKS P65 are stated as allowing up to 2.3 inch, and on a narrower tyre would allow extra mud clearance before clogging up.

I'm currently running some Continental Explorer 26 x 2.1 tyres, the extra width provided by the SKS P65s could be useful.
Once there on I don't plan to take them off.
The bike gets used on the road, hard pack limestone trails and occasionally loose mud in all weathers but no serious off-roading.

An early mtb will almost certainly have fixing points for proper SKS type guards. Whilst that would be a stupid thing to do for off-roading (mud and debris will jam between the tyre and guard), the OP wants this bike for nipping to the shops.

I have SKS guards on my '93 Marin, which I use for commuting. They're a pain to fit, but give no trouble in use.
