I have a pair of Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels which have developed a bit of play. Does anybody know how to adjust them? there are no nuts and locknuts to use cone spanners on.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Quick Fix

1. Try tightening the QR a tad to see if this cures it.

Other Fix

I don't know the system on Fulcrums but Campag on occasion uses a locknut with a little allen key bolt - is there one of these next to the hub?

If they're the same system as Fulcrum 5s with cartridge bearings , there's a locknut (17mm spanner), undo that then use a 13mm spanner to tighten the sleeve that goes through the bearing. That sleeve is seperate, but screws onto the axle, if that makes sense. If its too loose, it'll allow sideways movement along the axle.
Dont overtighten it, just enough to stop that sideways movement while still allowing the bearings to spin.

IF its the same system as 5s.

Google Fulcrum Wheels Leyton, go to Fulcrums website, select UK road, then go to Tech Lab, then Docs and select your wheels and year. there's user manuals and more importantly, spare parts manuals which may point you as to the construction...and adjustment.

Thanks GBB.
Have been there but I can't seem to make much sence of it. I don't want to wreck the wheels by prizing them apart, will call LBS near work on Monday.

You can always take the hub apart and work out what to do as you get there - the ends of the axle accept a hex key.

Insert a hex key at both ends and undo in the normal direction - ie the right hand undoes anti-clockwise.

After you have taken that off you should get a washer and then access to the adjustable nut.

They're cartridge bearings so there's not much adjustment to be made. If the spindle is loose somehow, tighten it up. Otherwise you might need new bearings. Find out the bearing number and order some online from a bearing supplier, don't buy from a bike store or you'll pay top money. I replaced 2 bearings in my Campag Khamsin wheels with SKF bearings for less than £10 inc p&p, not too expensive!
