O.k i want to change my Mavic Askriums from my good road bike and put them on my winter ride. I would like to know that if i buy a pair of Fulcrum 3s is it just a case of putting on the same cassete and just slipping in the new wheels or is it more involved than this.

Probably a bit more to do than that unless you are extremely lucky.

You will have obviously got a new wheel that is compatible to take your existing cassette (Shimano or Campag)??

The new wheel will very likely need to be centered in the frame by adjusting the axle (slacken off the cones, move axle then retighten cones etc). When the new wheel is in you will be able to see if the derailleur is in line with the sprockets on the cassette, if it is then no adjustment necessary. If the wheel is just about centered and only a minor change required then fiddling with the derailleur barrel adjusters should do it.

You will also probably need to adjust the brake pads to go nicely on the new rim.

Then you can report back on the difference between the two wheelsets - I am very interested to hear what you find. Both wheelsets are currently on my shortlist...

When i bought my Fulcrum 3's all I did was put the cassette on and that was it, brakes were in correct position & I've had no problems since. Great wheels btw.

I've swapped/fitted loads of wheels, never had to centre them.

Mrs D has racing 3's on her summer bike, nice wheels but being campag rims some tires (i.e continental) can be on the tight side.

Oh boy yes !!!
Conti gators on mine were an absolute swine. After an hour of trying i walked away and thought i'd have to buy different tyres. Christ knows, ive got fairly strong hands, but i was sweating.
Came back and tried to think of another way. Used my Park tyre levers (nice and broad), smeared some washing up liquid on the bead, get 80% of the tyre on the rim then use the lever to slide the tyre onto the rim. Its no good trying to lever it on, sliding it on with a pushing action works so much better.
