My only fry up is a treat on Sundays now.
It may be possible to keep on top of things as long your expending more calories than you intake, but its a slippery slope and you wont be giving your body what it needs nutritionally

Absolutely the more fry ups you have the less well being you will feel which will impact your rides but..

Nutritionally fry up provide a good balanced meal protein and carbohydrate mix its what they are cooked in that gives em a bad reputation

you can cook healthy fry ups providing the sausages are the right type use wholemeal toast with a scraping of butter instead of fried bread grill your bacon trim the fat kitchen towel role the excess add some beans or tomatoes and a poached egg and your good to go

However certain foods make you feel better but these are generally derived from the non cooking form for example spinach instead of lettuce feta cheese (not processed salad cheese) instead of cheddar and become boring after a while

One tip I would give is get a copy of men’s fitness magazine and look at the nutritional information the diets are pretty good However not everyone can afford pomegranates salmon steak etc ect so improvise

For example instead of blueberries I substitute for grapes or strawberries (if they are on offer) instead of a peach I substitute with an apple or pear, steak for chicken, ect ect

However what I’m getting at is it gets you thinking about your nutritional intake - Also if you cant be bothered cooking there are some good alternative meals out there but watch the fat content for example Iceland a chicken breast fried rice for £1.50 which provides a full meal at lunchtimes and apart from the fat its cooked in you’ve got rice (carbohydrate) and chicken (protein) providing a balanced meal and as long as you keep the fat content below 5g per 100g then you should not feel any worse off

here’s a more simple answer

Tuna mayonnaise salad baguette (lunch)

Tuna salad, (spinach instead of lettuce) my version of healthy mayonnaise (tablespoon crème fresh couple of squirts of table vinegar) as I cant stand dry tuna

My ride home at the end of the day if I choose the baguette is laboured yet I feel more fresh if I choose the salad option instead so very similar meals by the way I substitute the bread in the salad for a couple of crisp breads and a few squares of feta cheese

Its all about experimenting but I can definitely confirm from experience eating certain foods in certain ways can make a difference to your rides (may not make you any faster but will make you feel a little better)

I’m no expert I don’t claim to be but it seems to work for me

MY sin of course is cake and biscuits cant avoid the bloody things

Changing your diet is unlikely to cause you to lose fitness on its own. If you're alergic to any of the foods then you might find breathing harder due to asthma. If you're heavier you might find it harder up the hills. If you're neglecting hydration then you may also find it harder. But your CV system should not suddenly become less efficient simply through eating more chips and sausage (*salivates* ;) ).

As Edge705 says, there is plenty of energy in a fry up, it's more likely that you do not feel as good, or you're neglecting other aspects of your exercise regime. It's also possible that you are simply on the other side of a fitness peak.

Nothing wrong with a good fryup in moderation and sensibly at the right time, ie after a very long ride.

After a very long ride, to replenish your energy levels with carbs, you may need to eat an excessive amount due to the fact that a gram of carbs only provides 4 calories, whereas a gram of fat holds 9 calories.

So if you burn off 7000 calories you then need to eat 1750 grms of carbs to replace it ie could you stuff yourself with around 3 pounds of spuds, by eating fat, you only need to eat 777.7 grms of fat, so by balancing it out, you do not end up stuffed and bloated.

Which brings me to the point of my favourite way to eat the night before a big ride/event or afterwards......2 big bags of chips washed down with a pint of Guinness

I stopped fry ups after I went down with angina, I also stopped chips and a lot of other things I used to like, my poor diet was one of the things that contributed to me being ill. Wester what's your weight like? have you put any on?

Is it just the fry-ups that have changed? Unlikely on their own to cause the problems you're experiencing.

If you've let you're "comfort eating" it could be that you've let other things slip too....
