Front rack - Mudguard eyelets

Has anyone had experience of fitting a front rack (small randoneurring rack such as a nitto) to the mudguard eyelets? I'm thinking of fitting one to a Spa Audax frameset and wonder whether it's a pain with having to cross over the fork blade. Interested to hear any experiences, I assume using long screws! Hopefully that makes sense.

Longer screws and spacers. And don't overload the rack. Spacers with a larger external diameter (thicker wall) will be stronger.

Perfect, thanks for that. Nice to know that it can be achieved. I wonder how bad/unpleasing to the eye it would look

Spacer sleeves look nice.
I use them on my Wayfarer for the front and rear racks to get around the disc brakes.
