I picked up a set of them rac lights as a backup set and the front light isn't your normal white led it shines green yet the bulbs are white and case clear. I've never had that before, strange. Anyone know why?.

Thanks.

Arrrr, what ye have there is a Starboard light for a canal bike, me hearty. Is the other one red? Aye, thought so.

That is because the RAC is pulling a con!

When LEDs first came out the ability to produce white LEDs was limited and very expensive, and as a result tehre was a green tinge to them

THis stopped about ten or twelve years ago when the first white LEDs came out at an affordable price.

What the RAC are doing is shifting cheap fifteen year old stock. or lights produced using these old LEDs because they are so cheao.

Either way there is absolutely no excuse for selling these green lights in this day and age.

You may get into a little trouble by using them on the bike as the light is supposed to be white at the front. The Police are more lenient on non-british standard lights.

As Cunobelin says they are very old LEDs. They're also naff, brightness wise. If you have the tools (soldering iron, solder) you could go somewhere like Maplin and buy a few white LEDs and swap them out. Or do as others do and just buy a cheap torch (Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, B&Q even do some)
