Is there any reason I need to keep this on? I've decided it, along with all the reflectors, actually look a bit naff! Reflectors will be coming off but not 100% sure about the dork disc..

I'd keep it on personally, I've had a few spokes wrecked because my derailleur was playing up.

The rear 'dork-disc' can indeed save yer spokes from disaster if you are not confident you've nailed the limit adjustment on the rear derailleur.......and even then......sods law will try to throw the chain off as soon as you remove it!
But, no...the OP is talking (I think) about the plastic ring that sometimes comes with the big outside ring on the chainset that saves your chain overshooting the ring and you trausers and legs from toothy oil stains.
In theory-this 'shouldn't' be required either- but if you have any misgivings about the efficacy of your Front Derailleur limit settings, thenitwill save your bacon. But it will crack apart and fall off well before then in all likelihood !
They look a bit 'dorky' to people who worry about these things-but I take them off as soon as I am confident everything is set up sweetly.

No need to be embarassed about a plastic disc.

Some of my best friends are plastic discs!
