So got a Diverge on Saturday and the front disc brake is shuddering when I brake.

Any ideas before I nip it back to Specialised? Is it a breaking in period?

IME a correctly set up brake will work well 'out of the box'.

Get it back to the shop for them to check it over, we don't expect new car brakes to work anything less than 100%, why would we think bike brakes are different?

I bought a new Specialized Crosstrail (with disc brakes) earlier this year and the front brake shuddered for a short while. After braking down a few decent hills and braking quite hard to a complete stop the pads seem to have bedded in and it is nice a smooth. I would try this before returning to the shop.

Could just be bedding. Try finding a nice, quiet, flat road. Get upto about 20mph and jam the brakes on. *Important Bit* Don't fall off! Do this 2 or 3 times, then: Change into a gear you can push easily against a resistance (think a hill climbing gear) and pull the brakes on a little, just so they are binding. Ride the bike, like this, for 500M or so. All should be good. I do this each time I have changed pads (or, more irritatingly, after I have washed the bike). I removes judder and squeeeeeel
