I stripped and cleaned my bike, fitted all components back on the bike but now have come across a query. There is a roller on the front derailleur, and also a hook on the body of the bike. Where does the shifter cable have to be positioned in relation to these parts? I presume these are guides, but how should they be positioned to allow trouble free shifting? Pics below.

Thanks in advance...

The hook is this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...8_1318776514_79172d5743335ab4ebe906a43c5fb854

Not sure about the roller as I can't see from the photo!

Thank you, kind Sir  I had no idea what the purpose of the hook was.

The roller, it seems, is fitted as part of many derailleurs (if not all). I've looked at a few pics online and it seems that, once the shifter cable is held behind the anchor bolt and the derailleur is aligned correctly, the shifter cable will run over this roller.

Thanks for your reply

Took another pic so the roller is more visible. Bike is upside down.

You should have done what I did when I stripped mike bike. Take photos BEFORE.

Then If you're not sure, you can refer to the hotos, to show you how it was.
