I can shift up from the lower-middle-high cog, but when I'm changing down, the chain jumps from the top cog straight to the bottom one missing the middle cog.

The barrel adjuster is screwed in all the way & the cable is tight enough, can anyone give me some pointers?

Kind Regards

How about alignment, is the cage parallel to chainrings? Also you may need a little more tension on cable as it may only just be 'catching' making it easy for it to jump down to the bottom again.

Hi,

thanks for both of your replies, I have had a look at the cage and it is off slightly so I'll adjust it and play about with the cable tension.

There may be another cause. If the "H" adjustment screw is slightly too tight then the chain when on the big ring is under too much tension. When this is released by changing down the chain may spring directly across to the small ring missing the middle. Worth a look.

Front shifters can be very sensitive to both height and alignment settings with triples - and the limit screws need to be pretty accurate so that there is enough movement to give you two clear jumps moving from big to smaller rings. I had a fair bit of trial and error to get my Campag Veloce front shifter working efficiently.
