Hello,

I recently got a Ridgeback Genesis Day 02 frame and am in the process of adding the drivetrain. It's my commuter bike, which features a 3mile downhill journey there, and all uphill coming home. Hence why i'd like a road chainset to get a little faster on them hills as I was spinning out with my mtb gearing.

For the front I have a shimano R440 LH shifter for the front chainrings. I am asking for advice regarding the chainset, BB and front mech.

I was thinking of getting this chainset:

What BB would I need with that please, and front derailleur? My BB is a 68mm width in case that matters. Is there any reason the R440 shifter won't work with this chainset?

For the back I am thinking of running a MTB rear mech with a road cassette (for the closer ratio's). I want to run mtb as i'd prefer to have a common system between my mtb and the road bike incase of any failures, but more importantly, an slx RH shifter is only £24, and I fancy removing the window indicators for inboard brakes.

One final question...

Are all caliper brakes the same with regards to fitting? I know that the drop distance is one to measure, which I measured to be 49mm. Do they all fit to the frame though in the same way? I have brake levers which I used on an old flat bar bike with calipers, so that's fine, but was quite liking the look of the campag veloce levers: http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/Brakes-Road-Campagnol o-Veloce-Black-Brakes-Road/CAMPBRAR682000000000

Thanks very much in advance, many newb questions just asked.
