Front and rear brake calipers - do they exist?

Are dual pivot brake calipers specific to the front and rear or interchangable? I have seen them occasionally advertised as front or rear, but they look identical.

Any ideas anyone??????

The difference is in the length of the brake axle (the bit that goes through the frame or fork). Front brake axles are longer, as the distance through the fork crown is further than that through the rear brake bridge.
