well i changed mine last night (for brakes ),,both inner and outer,,refitting drops ,and in a straight line ,,with the cables in hand it felt very smooth pulling the levers ,,it must b cheap outers (1£ a mtr)because when they were taped in place it felt kinda rough pulling the levers ,,il have to replace them again cos it feels really rubbish ,,so any reccs for smooth cables that people have ,,must just b the outer as i cant see how inners can b any diff, but having said that should i just fit whole new inners\outers at the same time? ,,iv oiled them and it just feels rubbish ,,as if you can feel it graunching ,,and as a result the brakes are rubbish ,,i know its not pads or anything as when i got it they felt and worked really good ,,so ,,jagwire??

Argh you my friend have made the same mistake as me However I ended up in hospital as a result of trying to get cheap parts working (I wont bore you with the story) Right then solution - Shimano inner cable with Shimano outer sheath This can be bought by the meter from leisure lakes i.e a meter of cable sheath 4.99 did both sets of gears for me however the inners I think were 3.99 each the two fit like a glove and are nice and smooth - I think you'll pay the same for the break cables the sheaths have a slippery nylon inside them and work very well this is the cheapest way I have found other than buying the full set which costs £19.99 and £19.99

I recently fitted a cheap (Cycling Weekly cable set. Think I paid ~£2 for all four cables, end caos and rubber donuts so as cheap as it gets.) gear cable inside my Shimano SP41 outer. Shifting is now only just acceptable, I think the cable is slightly thicker, and much stiffer. The read derailleur loop of outer was pulling the deailleur away and down from the cassette, which didn't help. I've fixed it temporarily with a cable tie, and it works just about properly now.
The previous inner is the teflon impreganted type, and the old front cable with it is much cleaner than the new rear one without, which must relate to it's smoothness in the cable too.
I'll fix the rear cable when I can source the teflon inner on it's own for sensible money.

Jagwire on all the bikes. MTB about to get upgraded to top scale Jagwire from the entry level version fitted by the OEM.

I just changed my first cables at Christmas. Cables on it were oem and branded Jagwire. New ones are a Jagwire racer set. They are certainly better than they used to be, but it's difficult for me to tell if they are better than they were when it was new.

Be careful jagwire do a basic range and its pants IMO
Yep. The entry level Jagwire stuff, OEM on shed loads of branded bike, is only marginally better than utter pants. Works fine for the first few rides then welcome to a world of ghost shifting hurt.

Do peeps know Gore have recalled their campagnolo ride-on sets. Details on road.cc here
