Cyclosportive is 'racing' with a timing device, like a UK sportive.

Cyclo is just pootling, no device, in your own time, audax style.

Reckon you want the latter.

In my experience, French cyclosportives are far "racier" and "serious" than most UK sportives.
Defo go for the Cyclo if you're not a racer!

I've not ridden a UK one in 4 or 5 years but I can certainly vouch for the French ones being serious at the fast end of the bunch! Some of the French sportives are on national trophy calendars so are only really one step down from pro/semi-pro. But at the slower end, it's business as usual - probably just like the UK.

I'm hoping to ride one later this year, in September, depends how I feel closer to the time. The ones I've ridden in France (and it is only a handful) have all been fantastically organised, and I could only recommend the experience.
