My new, never ridden in the wet/dirt rear wheel is built with a Planet X road Pro Hub and it's managed to turn itself in to a fixie by locking up something rotten, I can't back pedal without the chain bunching and freewheeling is impossible.

I've removed the wheel and loosened the hexnuts on either side so that the hub does spin freely but after a while they appear to tighten up again.

Skewer is inserted correctly and clamp isn't overly tight.

Your thoughts please guys....

bent/broken axle inside the hub ?

It sounds like the either freehub has been over-tightened where it rests against the hub or the pawls are shot.

I'd send it back as if anything is broken then spares are not likely to be readily available.

Appears that there was a faulty spacer, 'Our tech team have looked into the issue and have replaced the spacer within the freehub eliminating the drag from the wheel'.

But TBH this is a bit of a pain - an I to assume then that PlanetX hubs are unique to them and not a rebranded something else and that every time I need to make a repair it will have to be sent to them rather than the LBS/

They are re-branded - but the makers probably don't do spares in order to keep the costs down.

They should be ok if you keep them clean - it might be an idea to take the hub apart as far as possible so that you can maintain it yourself.
