I was just chatting to the mechanic in my LBS and mentioned that I'll like to try my hand at wheelbuilding (He'd just rebuild my wheel £25 including all new spokes, spacers/chainline set up for fixie etc. ) he said that there's a proper hands on course with a web address like www AT6 training.com and its free to all between 16 and 65. I just googled it without success and he's off till Monday so I cant find out more. Anybody ever heard of it. He thinks its a national thing to encourage cycling... sounds too good to be true but you never know.
NB He asked me my age... that was worrying

I can true and replace spokes, but never tried building wheels...hmm.... you really need a good jig to do it... and a guide for spoke length.......
