I'm looking for some info on free wheel setup on my specialised tri cross, I have bit of play on the cassette I removed it to find the free wheel had a fair bit of movement and I could find no way of taking up the play, I have checked on you tube and there seem to be some sort of retaing bolt on the assembly, I cannot see this bolt on my assembly which I find strange the free wheel pulls straight of the wheel ? Is this right any info would be appreciated.

You will have to specify what type of hub you have on that wheel. Freewheels are not bike-specific but hub-specific. If nothing's written on the hub, a photo will help.

Thanks for the reply, I'm sure it's a shimano free wheel never seen any marks on the hub free wheel is slotted with small 1 small slot to ensure cassette goes on correctly. I have just had the bike serviced so might take wheel back to LBS and let them check it out. if I have to strip it down again will post pic.

If the hub is indeed Shimano, it will be printed on the centre of the hub. However, being Shimano compatible (100% of MTB wheels are), does not make it a Shimano freewheel and the mechanisms differ widely from brand to brand. Shimano freewheels are not serviceable. If they develop a problem, we replace it.

I have play on my hub too. Have removed the cassette and attempted to remove the Shimano freehub with the right tools, but it is going to have to goto a mechanic.
They are Miche Excite 700 road wheels.

The freehub is attached to the wheel hub by means of a hollow 10mm Allen type bolt. This is accessed after removing the axle.

My fee hub is not held by 10mm Allen bolt it just pulls off the wheel which I don't think looks right or feels right, when the hub is off you can see the ridges on the wheel that the hub latches into all that seems to be holding it in place is the tension on the axle for cone bearing adjustment

Are you just missing a spacer? A Shimano 11 speed freehub needs a spacer behind a 10 speed cassette.

I think the clue is, it just pulls off there is nothing holding it on. i don,t know myself but that does not sound right.
It will sound right if it isn't a Shimano hub. Shimano freewheels bolt on, many other brands simply push on. As I said before, lets establish the brand of hub before wildly guessing what the problem can be.
