Can anyone shine some light on the difference between the 'Free Trade Hall & Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester.

Ive searched the net though not much comes up. As Im only young  I not that familuer with the venue/hotel/trade centre.

Free Trade Hall was the home to the Halle Orchestra untill they built the Bridgewater Hall about 10 year back and I only ever went to the place once and the accoustics were unbelievable. Anyway many artist have played at the venue including The Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, Geniuses and even Bob Dylan played probebly one of the most famous live acts there. Its the one when he plugs a acoustic guitar into a amplifier and gets called 'Judas ' of what is hewbrew for Yahuda. Anyway I can see maybe Bob Dylan playing the Free Trade Hall though admitting a crowd of youth into the place to see a band like The Buzzcocks in 1976 is something else.

So what was the Lesser Free Trade Hall. Was it the same hall, Or another hall in the same venue or a completely different place ?

Don't know but you have me googling now too. Must be a different one or a smaller one in same venue if this quote is to be believed:
"Yeah, it’s funny because I think you can get 150 people in the Lesser Free Trade Hall and by my reckoning seven and a half thousand were there supposedly so something must have gone awry with the ticketing, apparently!"

The Lesser Free Trade Hall was a smaller room upstairs. I remember it being fairly small, rectangular and flat-floored like a school assembly hall, i.e. no banking, no balconies.

Thanks for the info peoplple

Martin Scorsese did a film on Bob Dylan called 'Bring It Back Home'' based on the gig at the Free Trade Hall Manchester I think ?

Its one of them films I still haven't seen except for clips. My freind who died recently (yeah he was a lot older than me) was Bobs tea boy and he comments on Bobs gig in the film.

So was this gig in the main hall at the Free Trade

Also Im surprised no one has has said I was there at the Pistols gig
