Right so ive been given a place for the fred this morning...so the event is on the 12 may i need to give myself at least two days not cycling before the event to rest..so my question is what is going to be the best use of my time between now and then for training? my fitness leval is ok but nowhere near what it was last year i did do a 100 mile ride on wed so im sure i can get round it...

I've not ridden the Fred before but have ridden a fair chunk of the route...it is difficult, the hardest sportive in the UK imo. Hardknott Pass with fresh legs is bloody hard never mind hitting it with about 100 miles in the legs.

A week and a bit isn't going to do much for training but i'd get a long ride in at the weekend then take it easy next week with a couple of shorter easier rides and focus on eating properly, hydrating etc

I've done the Fred once and wasn't in top shape. You'll get round okay if you pace it sensibly, I'm sure.
When I ran marathons I would only do one or maybe two very light runs in the last week. I suspect being fresh would serve you better than a futile attempt to gain fitness in such a short time.

Good Cumbrian weather a little light drizzle!
Was halfway up Hardknott Pass supporting, shouting words of encouragement, hope the guy who I put back on his bike finished, well done to all.

Just done this today. A few thoughts.........

Honister is horrible.

Hardknott after 100 miles is very horrible.

Wrynose after 105 miles is miserable.

One should use a compact chainset with a medium cage and a 32 cassette - at least!

Official time of 7 hours 24mins.

7.24 bloody good. Managed 7.53 and having a 34 compact and a 28 on the back was peddling squares up Hardknott and Wrynose. Think I set a new record for slowest ascent without walking :-)
