The man behind Cippo and Bettini has sadly died in a rallying accident RIP.

Always sad to hear such news, he was a big name in the sport. RIP!

When he won Paris-Roubaix in '95 and '98, he flew across northern France like a TGV on two wheels. He was perfectly made for that race.

He also was as good at leading the Italian national team as he was at racing on the cobbles. He selected the teams and devised the tactics that produced multiple world champions.

Dug out some old VHS videos last night of Ballerini winning Roubaix in his pomp. Just brilliant.

Also Tchmil winning in a sea of mud - not had a PR like that for a few years - again brilliant viewing.
