Frame Size

My Wife is contemplating a first bike but only wants something really, really cheap and cheerful to see if she likes the experience of chasing our 6 year old round on hers.

Being just over 5'1" she's seen a couple of bargain buys on the dreaded bay of E which are 14" frames with 26" wheels.

Would that kind of size fit her as a starting point? She's not of a mind to spend anymore than is absolutely necessary just to find out if she likes it, especially heading into the autumn/winter months.

Any advice gratefully received!

My Wife is 5'1" too .. and we've been looking around for a new bike for her. All the advice we've had and seen is that a 14/15" frame with 26" wheels is what she's after.
We've got a Claud Butler in the kitchen which is 14" and she said it was perfect (shame it's going back due to a problem with the bottom bracket) although I think a 15" would be slightly better for her.

Oh, and I'm no expert so please take the above advice with a pinch of salt, someone infinitely more knowledgeable will no doubt be along soon.

it would be fine.
Make sure its as simple a set up as possible eg no rear suspension, no cheap dodgy disc brakes etc
All of the above will add weight and affect the quality of ride so look for something with less features and more quality.
