Sorry to be showing my ignorance here but my question is...How do you measure a bike frame? Between which two points do you measure to find the frame size in inches?
Not an ignorant question. You measure them however the manufacturer tells you and between whichever two points they say
Traditionally, it used to be the length along the seat post from the top of the horizontal top-tube to the centre of the bottom bracket shell (which gave a rough rule-of-thumb of inside leg less 9 inches for an average size, varying a bit if you have short or long reach), but that's all gone to hell with sloping top tubes and strange tube shapes - see http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_e-f.html#framesize
I find the best measure for comparing bikes with differing geometries is the notional horizontal top tube measurement, though manufacturers mostly persist with the seat tube measurement for sizing purposes.
Ah! Right! Just checked my bike and the measurement from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat post is exactly the measurement as specified by the manufacturer.
Thank You.
