Fox Shock Evo - CTD no longer works

Out riding yesterday, heard a metallic ping sound, thought a stone had just flipped up and hit the frame but noticed the front fork CTD knob no longer has any effect. It is stuck in full travel on all settings so no lockout at all.

I've found some vids on basic fork service, seals, clean, relube etc but nothing on the ctd side of the fork.

Does anyone have experience of dismantling it and any advice on how to proceed?

tnx

(Bike is a Trek EX7 Fuel 2015)

Sounds like the damper is damaged. There are guides out there but its a tricky dismantle and rebuild. I think FOX has a guide on their site for dismantling the dampers but you will see there are a lot of parts and from memory you need some special tools.

I would send them off for a full service for the cost and hassle.

Depending on year of manufacture there was an issue with some of the Fox Evo forks not locking out. They had to be sent off to Mojo for repair which was done free of charge. Mojo have now been replaced by Silverfish who are the official service agents. Might be worth giving them a call to check out

Jeez, I see what you mean

Any recommendations for servicing? (doesn't sound like it'll be cheap, maybe it's just new bike time  )

Depends on how much you want to throw at them. I think a normal service/rebuild from one of the bigger agents is about 150. Don't hold me on that. There is a company near me called Silk Suspension. They seem good with service costs and im going to send my rear shock in for a full overhaul. FOX Forks or rear shock is £70 for full overhaul including damper rebuild.

Might be worth a call to Silverfish like iluvmybike says to see if there was a recall and if they can do anything.

I like the optimism of a new bike though

Just an update and thank you for your advice folks,

Sent them off to Silverfish, they did a quick turn round they serviced for £119 and replaced the CTD cartridge under the recall warranty.

Never dealt with these guys before but their staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful people I've ever come across.

Same can't be said for Hermes who took a week to deliver to them  and tried to deliver to a business address outside business hours.
