And then lost it  I was on my trainer last night (downpour outside last night) and I was just spinning along when during about 1-2 minutes of the time I was on it, I suddenly realized I was spinning the pedals in what felt like no real exertion of energy - just felt like a perfect spin of the pedals maintaining cadence and that I could have continued in that gear for a very long period of time.

I was so excited - I started trying to figure out how I was moving my legs and; of course; I lost the feeling and couldn't get it back again. I have no idea what motion I was doing with my legs to get that feeling and no matter what gear I tried (at, above and below the gear it happened in) or how I moved my legs to spin the pedals, I couldn't recreate that feeling. Has anyone else had that "ideal motion" feeling? How long did it take you to develop/be able to repeat that motion?

Try focussing on pulling your legs up, don't push down and point your knees in toward the frame

You don't say what turbo tou have nethfel but if it has a large flywheel it is possible that this would explain the phenomenon.
I use a Wahoo Fitness KICKR - which I've used now with 2 different bikes but have only had this feeling this one time...

I notice a sweet spot that correlates with a certain amount of lactic acid. It feels like the legs are being pushed around by a dead weight.

Ah, that's what our American friends would call 'the zone'. Italians call it 'La Pozitione'. Belgians call it 'riding your bike'.

Approaching perfection from a distance.
At the time you were thinking about the young widow/widower** who's just moved in next door. I find this helps me to get into the zone and does wonders for my pedal stroke.
