OK, so my forks have a rake of 39mm

what happens if I replace them with forks that have a rake of 43mm?

4mm difference - will that be noticeable?

they helped a little

so basically most road bikes have 43 or 45mm rake; but mine road bike has 39mm for some reason (I did notice looking on the web for forks that they pretty much all come in 43mm rake)

According to Zinn, increasing the rake will make my bike less stable (opposite to what I thought)

Anyway, what I really want to know is whether 4mm will make any significant difference and will it just look and feel the same?

I doubt it would feel exactly the same as your existing forks. IMHO, each fork has its own subjective "feel" even forkss of identical measurements. How much different is difficult to predict. Bear in mind that if a fork with 43mm rake handles so badly, I suspect the manufacturers would have been at the wrong end of a law suit by now.
