Hello,

I have noticed that when holding my front break and rocking my bike back and forth i notice some play. At first i thought it was the headset but recently had it replaced and i still have the same issue. earlier today i noticed that there seems to be some play between the stranchion tubes where they meet the holders. i can see a gap when rocking the bike. The fork tends to slighly visibly move back when hard breaking aswell. my question is whether some play in the suspension is normal and if this is a major problem than can cause something like fork failure?

There are lots of moving/sliding parts in suspension forks. Play is inevitable - especially in the cheaper ones..

Righto. Back the bolts on the stem off a bit, then tighten down the crown bolt ( the one that's on top of the headset) with a torque key (5Nm), then re tighten the bolts on the stem.

Did you read the OP? Why do that if the headset is not loose?

It's play in the bushes that the sliders run in.

As @raleighnut says, the bushings in the fork are worn. Basically with a Suntour fork, it's a basket case, inasmuch as the cost of having them serviced would be better spent on a replacement fork. There are loads on eBay, but you'd be better finding and fitting something like a Rockshox Tora.

Is the fork still usable with used bushes? What will happen if they are not serviced?

Yeah, you can never be too sure.

I don't understand this trend on this forum to mention all sorts of unrelated issues when the initial description of the problem makes it clear that it has nothing to do with something unrelated. Just in case is just confusing.

If I can get about 1 years commuting to work on just Road out of it. I was going to purchase a new ride anyway
