I ride the same 34 mile round trip to and from work every night and morning and have done so for years and what I have always done is make mini stages in my head ( like I suppose most do ) such as " get to the next roundabout or next set of lights or next village " ect . Anyway this morning (6 o clockish) I set off as usual but when I got home I put my bike away as usual and get a drink ,quick wash and then to bed. It was at this point I realised that I could not remember my ride (or big parts of it) .What went wrong , Was I just daydreaming or something. Do you think it is dangerous cos anything could have happened and I would not have known about it

I'm sure there's been a thread similar to this one.

I'm guessing your mind has become accustomed to it and therefore your mind could think of others things or go blank for a while.
But this doesn't mean you were unaware of road hazards, there probably weren't anything major, as if there were, your mind would react and you'd feel a rush of adrenaline.

It's kind of like you were on cruise control.

When I lived in west Wales and my then-OH was in Oxford, I'd frequently drive as far as the Severn Bridge and blink, wondering how I had managed to get there without realising.

Did you know what time you left work and what time you arrived home? Did it take any longer than usual? Any bright lights in the sky? Any strange marks on the body? Tip: search for tiny needle marks.

Your body could be being used to develop a breed of super-night-commuting-exomorphs. I'd vary the route home if i was you. ;)

Happens all the time if I've something on my mind - especially on the evening homeward commute

I've often ended the commute before I realised that I'd started it.

Don't worry about it, things like this happen.

A couple of years ago, I turned into a small footpath as usual to get to my house, only problem was I was in the car and not on my bike.

Then last week, I got home and promptly said to my partner, "someone's nicked my car" and as I stared in disbelief up my empty drive, I became aware of my partner doubled over, head between her legs p*****g herself laughing, and at that point, it sunk in, I was in my car.

Too much biking is bad for your memory.

You may think this weird but it is known as highway hypnosis which is actually recognised in cognitive psychology.

Google highway hypnosis it is extremely common, completely natural and nothing to worry about.

There was a thread along the same lines a short while ago. Don't worry you just did the trip on auto pilot, most of us do it now and again if its a route that we do regular and often.
