I am selling my Brompton as I just haven’t ridden it nearly as much as I thought I would.

I see the bike has been bid up to close to £1,000.

Seems you pitched the starting price spot on, high enough to avoid giving it away, but low enough to attract some interest.

Hopefully the auction effect will swing into play, and one of those bidders will end up paying you a little more for the bike than they might otherwise have done.

Not entirely surprised.

My local bike shop has done well sending Bromptons and bits, mostly luggage, to Singapore.

Even at UK retail plus carriage at cost, the trader over there can still sell the stuff at a profit.

Needless to say, Brompton are not keen on this trade.

The owner of the bike shop received a query from them asking why he was selling a disproportionate number of bags to bikes.

Bless 'em, only Brompton could moan at a dealer for selling too much of their stuff.

Sold (not to Singapore!) for £33 less than I paid for it. A depreciation of £9.45 a year.
Pretty pleased with that!

Friend who sold his CHPT3 due to finances being tight had lots of enquiries from there, some offering 5K 😮 He wisely insisted on collect only and payment by bank transfer.

Interestingly, the buyer appears to be someone who sells Bromptons and specialises in sending bikes to this part of the world.
He has several bikes for sale all with this message

Interesting in that the purchaser I mentioned was buying the bike to ship to that region. He and his wife were doing a round trip collecting Brommies that they had purchased. There’s a bit more to the story but I can’t go into it here on a public forum.

It might have made more for the Singapore market if it was still completely as new with all the tags still on it.
