I found this site a couple of weeks ago and I think the information in it might be of interest to Brooks lovers and wana be Brooks owners ^_^

I'm not sure I agree with some of the things I've read there, although I admit I've not taken the time to read it properly. It would be interesting to hear from Brooks owners and what they think.

Here is the site

Thanks for sharing. The blogger also does a lot of good work on dynamos and dynamo powered lights.

I had a good read of the page late last night in time to set up my new acquisition, Brooks Swallow, this morning.

My initial discrepancy with blogger was the bit about sit bones width. I had my sit bones measured a couple of years ago and I was told they were 130mm - the blogger is saying that with that width I cannot ride a Team Pro comfortably. My initial reaction was "that is total cr*ap" as I ride a Team Pro and very comfortably. Having said that, his statement stayed in my head till I got out of bed and went to measure my sit bones marks on the other saddles. I came to realise that my sit bones width are in fact 9.1cm..... but the B67 shows a wider width something like under 13cm. This made me realise that the guy measured my sit bones incorrectly, probably in an upright position rather my actual riding position. I never imagined the difference between a very upright position and a not too aggressive position could be as much as 4cm.

I tested the swallow on two bikes and I must say that it feels wonderful riding on the drops of a bike with handlebars at nearly saddle level. Riding on the hoods is good too, just not as good as riding on the drops.

Hmmmm... I had mine measured at a Spesh dealer, they said I measured 90mm - which meant I needed a 130mm saddle (the narrowest of the 3 widths that Spesh offer. I tried a Spesh Avatar 130 but couldnt get on with it. The narrower Brooks saddles are perfect however.... favourite is a Ti-railed Swift.

That's interesting..... I don't supposed you have measured your sit bones marks on your swift saddle.....

I'm thinking that specialised would do well to mount that sit bones measuring device on a bike.... then you could adjust the handle bars position to match your bike. I think then you could get a much accurate measurement and it would help them to match you to one of their saddles better.

According to the width they measured for me, I could just about get away with riding a B17, however, the fact is I can ride comfortably a Team Pro and I've just tested the Swallow. Having said that, the real measurement I should count on is what I measured from the indentations left by my sit bones on 3 Brooks saddles.
