Foot pain?

I had a couple of weeks off the bike, and since coming back, on both rides so far, I've suffered from some foot pain after around 5 miles or so, in both feet, towards the outside edge of the foot, which I've never had before.

Shimano A530 pedals, Mavic shoes with ratchets, don't think I'm doing anything different, but am wondering if my pedal centre should be more outboard, am i pushing down on the outside edge as a press down?

Any thoughts, experience, advice?

I get this with certain makes of shoes. Suspect I have low arches, not suited to all footwear.

towards the outside edge of the foot
is it between either the little toe and number 4, but into the foot touch or between middle toe and 4th and about 2-3cm into the foot?

If it is, then your cycling shoes are too tight.

Thanks, but it's right down the very outside edge of my foot, from behind the toes to just in front of the heel. might tweak the cleats or go for a proper fit including cleats etc.

Have you tried loosening the shoes? Could be swollen feet in warmer weather making the shoes tighter. Or try some thinner socks. Seems odd you've not had it before

Yes, that's all I can think of, I'll give that a try..... just seems odd that I didn't feel I'd had them any tighter... Of course I could just toughen up a bit...

I prefer touring shoes, had many issues with left foot particularly going dead, still happens now and then but far better with touring shoes

It was better on Friday, I think a combination of slightly looser shoes and toughening up a bit after 3 weeks off.
